This is my own interpretation of his life...and I am going to try and make it short and sweet.
John Joseph Theodore Rzeznik was born December 5th, 1965, in Buffalo, NY to Joseph and Edith Rzeznik.  His life at home didn't seem to be the happiest, but whose is?  From what it seems like to me all the problems started with the bar his dad was suppose to get.  He used to take John there when was little a lot.  While his dad was away his mom sold the bar, and I think, that is when things at home went on a downward slide.  His dad drank a lot and would be abusive at home.  There were times when his dad would come home and fall out on the floor and he and his sisters would have get him to his chair in the living room.  John has said that love sometimes came in the form of a back hand.  There was a night where John's dad hit his mom, John hit his dad, and his mom starting hitting John.  She told him he needs to respect his father, and at the time, John didn't. So John started taking money from his father's wallet and acting out in rebellion, like kid's his age would.....
Then the music started.  He started out playing the accordion..then the drums.  His mom couldn't take the drums she bought him a kay guitar.  And off he went.  He was getting money to take guitar lessons, but he would buy beer instead.   His parents ended up getting a divorce at some point, and his mom let his dad stay upstairs.  His father passed away from a diabetic coma.  Then about a year later, John was taking a nap on the couch while his mom was in his dad's chair. and he woke up to see his mother having a heart attack..An abulance was called, but she was declared dead on arrival.  So John was on his own.  One of his sisters helped get him an apartment.  He has said he would drink alot...and he would sleep with his t.v. on because he didn't want to be alone.  Around 1986 John met Robby Takac and the journey began.. Playing clubs for beer...touring in a van...sleeping on people's living room floor....I am writing to much....so I am going to shorten it.  So after years of hangovers and going through hell with Metal Blade....being broke...and losing hope...the Goo Goo Dolls had their first hit with "Name"....John suffered writer's block and was saved by "City of Angels" for which he wrote "Iris"....fame came quick but they kept their cool....a few Dizzy Up The Girl's later ....Gutterflower emerged and it did great....John did "I'm Still Here" for Disney's "Treasure Planet"...and now are going strong, level headed, and thinking straight.... Made a DVD for July 4th "Goo Goo Dolls Day" in Buffalo NY....keeping busy with side projects and the new CD they are working on....Need I say more....The Goos have made it through the rain and are  gearing up for the new CD and tour....Keep it UP Guys!!!

I  LOVE  JOHN   RZEZNIK!!!
